Tsum Valley Trek Overview

Tsum Valley Trek is a very extraordinary Himalayan experience that offers both spiritual immersion in Tsum and the high-altitude adventure of Manaslu Region. Fifteen days of trekking lets one explore a remote part of Nepal that was only opened to outsiders in 2008. This trail takes you from the lush lowlands of the Budhi Gandaki River gorge to the alpine zone on the Tibetan border.

The journey starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Seti Khola, where the trail begins its gradual ascent through narrow ridges and cascading waterfalls surrounded by beautiful Gurung and Magar villages. Upon entering the Tsum Valley near Lokpa, you feel the change in the environment and culture. Passing through quiet villages such as Chhokang Paro, Nile, and Burji offers views of a traditional way of life that has barely altered for the past hundred years.

The Mu Gompa visit is a station offering panoramic views of Ganesh Himal and Tibet beyond. Nearby is the much smaller Rachen Gompa or nunnery, giving an insightful perspective on the spiritual life of the valley's inhabitants. The Tsumba people follow Vajrayana Buddhist tradition; hence Mani walls, Chortens, and prayer flags are all woven into the daily life culture. The valley truly feels like a sacred pocket of time giving peace to realize awe.

This trek typically covers an estimated trekking distance of between 140 and 150 kilometers and is equally a physical challenge as it is a deeply rewarding visit to one of the most diverse trekking trails in Nepal. The 15-day itinerary has been designed to include essential acclimatization and keeps a balance between cultural awareness, vistas, and high-mountain exploration.
