It is the best trekking option in the Khumbu Region for those who are looking to explore Everest from every angle.
The trek begins with a beautiful flight to Lukla. From Lukla, the trail continues through the vibrant and beautiful Sherpa villages such as Phakding and Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar is just more than a village; it’s a cultural center where the trekkers get used to the environment during their acclimatization. After the day of the acclimatization, the trekkers trek to Tengboche and Dingboche. Tengboche is the home to the largest monastery in that area. On reaching Dingboche, the route is different than the Everest Base Camp as trekkers make their way towards Chhukung, preparing for the first and the highest of three passes- Kongma La (5,535m). The trails are rocky and involve crossing the glaciers while being surrounded by the beautiful view of Makalu, Ama Dablam and other moountains. After the Kongma La pass, the path joins the classic Everest Base Camp trail at Lobuche. Trekkers continue their journey to Everest Base Camp and often ascend Kalapatthar the next morning to witness the sunrise view over Everest, the best panoramic viewpoint in the region.
After the Kala Pathar, trekkers prepare for the second pass, Cho La Pass (5,420m). This part of the trek is very challenging and eventually descends into the spectacular Gokyo Valley. Here, you can explore the Gokyo Lakes- a series of six high-altitude freshwater lakes and hike up to Gokyo Ri (5,357m) for a panoramic view.
The final phase of the trek involves crossing the third pass of the trek, Renjo La Pass (5,360m). It is widely known for its wide, open views of the entire Everest range. After this pass, the trek descends to Thame, a peaceful Sherpa village with rich cultural values, before heading back to Namche and eventually Lukla.
The Everest Three Passes trek is a long and tiring trek. It is not just a physical challenge; it is a complete immersion into the Himalayan lifestyle, culture, and landscape. There are several trekking packages available for this trek with different needs and budgets. The packages can be customized according to the preference, offering extra acclimatization days.

Along the trek, you will stay in basic teahouses and lodges that provide simple rooms and meals. At lower altitudes, these places are more comfortable and better managed. However, as you go higher toward Everest Base Camp and cross the three challenging passes, the accommodation becomes more basic.
Yes, Wi-Fi and mobile network coverage are available at most major villages along the Everest Three Passes Trek, such as Namche Bazaar, Lukla and Dingboche. Most teahouses charge their customers for Wi-Fi access. Trekkers should be prepared for limited connectivity, especially above 4,000 meters.
Temperatures vary by season and altitude. In spring and autumn, Lukla (2,800m) experiences temperatures between 5°C and 15°C. At higher elevations, temperatures can drop to -10°C to -20°C during the night in spring and autumn.. Winter treks may experience temperatures as low as -20°C or colder.
Yes, teahouses offer charging facilities for a small fee (USD 2-5 per device). We recommend carrying a power bank or solar charger, as electricity may be limited at higher altitudes.
Credit cards are not widely accepted along the Everest Three passes Trek. It’s best to carry enough Nepali Rupees for the entire trek, especially for hot showers, Wi-Fi, hot water, and tips. ATMs are available in Namche Bazaar, but they are not always reliable.
The Three Passes (known as Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La Pass on the Everest Region)is safe for well-prepared trekkers during peak seasons. However, snow, ice,, slippery sections, snow-covered trails and rockfall increase during off-seasons such as winter and monsoon. We recommend hiring an experienced guide or porter for safety and navigation.
You can expect traditional Nepali meals such as dal bhat, along with noodles, soup, eggs, and tea/coffee. In higher altitudes, food choices may be limited, and prices increase due to transportation challenges.
