The Khopra Danda trek is a wonderful trek in the Annapurna region, which offers a less-crowded alternative to popular trekking routes. The trek begins from Pokhara to Ghandruk, which takes you to through the Gurung and Magar villages. The route ascends through the Gurung and Magar villages and lush rhododendron to the panoramic views of mountains at Khopra Danda (3,660m). The trek highlights an optional day hike to Khayar Lake (4,660m). The trek descends through Ghorepani, which offers you a sunrise hike to Poon hill (3,210 m).

Khopra Trek Outline

Day 01 – Drive From Kathmandu to Pokhara (822 meters)by tourist bus 6hour drive.

Day 02 – Drive from Pokhara to Ghandruk and trek to Tadapani(2600 meters) 6hours walk.

Day 03 – Trek from Tadapani to Bayeli Kharka(3450 meters) 5hours walk.

Day 04 – Trek from Bayeli Kharka to Khopra Danda( 3660 meters) 6hours walk.

Day 05 – Trek from Khopra Danda to Swanta (2210 meters) 5hours walk.

Day 06 – Trek from Swanta  to Ghorepani (2800 meters) 5hours walk.

Day 07 - Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m) then trek to Birethanti (1,039 meters) 6hours walk and drive to Pokhara.

Day 08 – Drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus.

Departure Dates

We have daily departures for this trip from March to May and from mid-September to mid-December. You can type in the number of passengers to book a reservation and select a date that is convenient for you. Due to group size, we never cancel a trip once you've made a reservation. If you would rather join the group, we will add more travelers on the selected date. You can let us know once you make a reservation or earlier.

If you want to cancel the trip for any reason, you can let us know at least 30 days in advance. We will refund your deposit. If you want to cancel the trip within a 30-day period, we will keep your deposit until you find out the next schedule.

The Khopra Trek covers a distance of approximately 50 to 70 kilometers (31 to 44 miles), starting from Ghandruk and making a round trip back to Birethanti via Tadapani, Khopra Danda, Poon Hill and Ghorepani. Each day while ascending, trekkers walk between 8 to 12 km, depending on the terrain, and elevation gain. Trekkers ascend around 1,700 meters after starting from Ghandruk to the top of Khopra Danda, and then descend gradually through the popular Gurung villages like Ghorepani and Swanta.  The starting point of this trek at Ghandruk sits at an elevation of 2,012 meters, while Khopra Danda lies at 3,660 meters. The Khopra Trek doesn’t require technical climbing skill but does require a certain level of physical fitness. Many beginners have successfully completed the Khopra trek with our company, so mountaineering experience is not required. However, normal level of physical fitness is necessary.  People who regularly engage in fitness activities such as swimming, cycling, or cardio exercises can easily accomplish this trek. Trekkers will be walking 4 to 6 hours a day at on average, often on rocky, uneven trails, pace and elevation gains. The Khopra Trek isn’t a high altitude trek compared to others, so the risk of altitude sickness is relatively low. This makes it suitable for most people. If you are preparing for the Khopra trek, mountaineering experience is not essential, but normal level of physical fitness is important.
