The Manaslu and Annapurna Circuit Trek is a Himalayan journey that combines the raw, remote wilderness of the Manaslu as well as Annapurna Region. This long trek is designed for those experienced trekkers who are looking for new challenges and adventures. This trek includes the challenge of crossing two of Nepal’s most iconic passes: Larkya La and Thorong La.
The trek begins with a drive to Seti Khola from Kathmandu. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River in the lower Manaslu region. As you ascend through this region, the villages become more Tibetan, both culturally and architecturally. The remote villages of this region include Ghap, Lho, Samagompa, Samdo which offers a glimpse into high-altitude life, with yak pastures, traditional stone houses and ancient monasteries.
One of the main highlights of this trek is the crossing of Larke La Pass (5,160m), often covered with snow and offering views of Manaslu, Himalchuli, Cheo Himal and parts of Annapurna Range. From here, you descend into Marsyangdi valley which joins the famed Annapurna Circuit near Dharapani. The Annapurna Region brings differences in landscapes and culture. The terrain becomes drier and more alpine as you pass through the villages like Chame, Pisang and ManaThe Manang village offers an insight into Gurung, Thakali, and Tibetan influenced lifestyles. After Manang. The trails ascend towards the Thorang La Pass (5,416m), the highest point of the trek. It is a challenging ascent but well worth the effort with beautiful views and personal sense of achievement. From here, the trail continues through Kagbeni and Jomsom or optionally through Tatopani and Ghorepani, depending upon your itinerary.
This long trek covers a trek distance of around 300-330 kilometers, depending upon the chosen itinerary. The Manaslu and Annapurna Circuit Trek covers a distance of approximately 220 to 240 kilometers, starting from Machha Khola and making a round trip back to Pokhara via Ngyak, Lho, Dharamshala, Larkya La Pass, Dharapani, Chame, Manang, Yak Kharka, Thorong La Pass, and Muktinath. Each day while ascending, trekkers walk between 12 to 18 km, depending on the terrain, and elevation gain. Trekkers begin the journey from Machha Khola and ascend approximately 4,200 meters to reach the high point of Larkya La Pass. After crossing the pass, they gradually descend through beautiful villages such as Bhimthang and Dharapani. From Dharapani, the trail ascends again toward Chame at 2,720 meters, following the route of the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The trek continues through diverse landscapes until reaching the challenging Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, then descends through the sacred site of Muktinath and concludes in Pokhara. This combined trek consists of two phases: the first phase covers the Manaslu Circuit, ending after the descent to Dharapani; the second phase follows the Annapurna Circuit, starting from Chame and completing with the Thorong La crossing and descent to Pokhara.
