Cho La Pass Trek via Everest Base Camp Overview

The Gokyo Cho La Pass via Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most challenging as well as rewarding trek adventures in the Himalayas. It is designed for the trekkers looking for both challenge and variations among the treks. This long trek takes you through the lush forests, high mountain passes, glacial lakes, and iconic viewpoints. This trek is slightly different than the normal Gokyo Cho La Pass trek as trekkers cross the Cho La Pass only after reaching the Everest Base Camp.

The trek kicks off with a beautiful flight to Lukla, either from Kathmandu or Ramehapp. From Lukla, trekkers start their hike and ascend to the charming villages like Phakding, Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar, often called as the gateway to Everest, is a busy Sherpa Town where trekkers rest and acclimatize.

On reaching Namche Bazar, trekkers follow the classic trail towards the Everest Base Camp, often crowded than the Gokyo trail. Trekkers ascend gradually through Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche before reaching Everest Base Camp. Tengboche is also the home to the largest monastery (Tengboche Monastery) of the Khumbu region. The trail becomes challenging to the Everest Base Camp. Most of the trekkers prefer to hike up to Kala Pathhar the next morning to witness the golden rays of sun over the top of Everest and then gradually trek down to Dzongla, preparing to cross the Cho La Pass (main highlight of the trek).

Upon crossing the Cho La Pass, the next day, trekkers trek down to Thangnak and eventually Gokyo. Trekkers hike up to Gokyo Ri early in the morning and follow the trail to Dole. The trek finishes with the return to Namche Bazar and Lukla. Along the way you will find beautiful Himalayan landscapes. Beyond these landscapes, this trek offers you rich cultural insights as well. You’ll know more about the Sherpa people, whose deep-rooted Buddhist traditions, prayer flags, stupas and monasteries add a spiritual dimension to the trek.

The Gokyo Cho La Pass via Everest Base Camp trek package is fully customizable. You can prepare the itinerary and include the acclimatization days as per you need. The itinerary can be made shorter and longer depending upon the pace and preference of the traveler.
